Why Felt or Velvet?
The designer of these accordian shoulder straps is a professional accordionist with many years of live and studio performing experience. He states that felt and velvet are more comfortable than vinyl pad lining (sometimes called "leatherette"), and it is less likely to slip on your shoulders, thus giving you firmer stability while practicing or performing. And it is long-lasting. Matching material is available on all bass straps as well. All the weight-bearing parts, including the bindings, are made of genuine fresh leather.

Accordion shoulder straps come in pairs. The exception is the Irish/Cajun style button box single strap, which has the padding further down from the upper end, and is used when playing the button box in a sitting position.
To know your best strap size, (see table) it is important to know your accordion size. If you order straps and they are too large or small, you may exchange them within a reasonable time, especially if you haven't modified, e.g., punched more extra holes in them. If your accordion is a full-size piano accordion the keyboard will measure 19-1/4 inches between the outer edges of the white keys on the keyboard. It could be 120 bass and have a 15 inch keyboard. Usually though, the sizes are 19-1/4", 18", or 17". This is usually called Professional, Ladies, and Junior, respectively. The general rule is that the correct shoulder strap size for each accordian would be Pro 19" keyboard, Medium 18" keyboard, or the smaller Junior, i.e., most button boxes, ultra-compact 120 bass, 48 bass, etc. based on a keyboard size (or distance between the strap holder brackets) of about 17" on down to 15" or even less. For children playing 12 bass, there is a 12 bass size, as well. For each size and pad-lining of shoulder straps there is a matching bass strap. See the Bass Strap Table.

- You could just measure your existing straps, if you have them. To compare your straps with the new straps, you would
- Measure the distance of the right strap (in inches) between the ends, at the binding buckles, not including the bindings. (The bindings are the thin leather pieces that fasten the straps to the metal brackets.) If your existing straps that you are neasuring are too short ,just order the next longer size! If the staps you receive are not satisfactory in any way, you may exchange them for refund or a credit if not modified, within a reasonable time.
- If still in doubt, measure the distance between the upper and lower brackets on your accordion, which you can also compare to the keyboard size on the table, which is nearly equivalent to the distance between th bottom and top strap brackets on your accordion.
- Remember, you may exchange your straps, or return them if the size is wrong, or for any other reason as long as they are not modified or damaged, and within a reasonable time.
- If your accordion is 48 bass you would probably need the Junior size. For 60, 80, and 96 bass, you would use the keyboard measurement, or the distance between brackets (See table).
- For 12 bass accordions, children would use the 12 bass childrens' size, and adults who prefer the 12 bass accordion would mostly use the Junior size.
- Lastly, an alternative way to measure the accordion size is the distance between the upper and lower strap brackets via tape measure, which roughly corresponds to the keyboard sizes listed in the table.
